Samaritan Fellowship is honored to share God’s love with you. We strive to be fair to all and be efficient with our limited resources. The following information will be helpful to you and us in achieving these goals.
1. To be eligible for Samaritan Fellowship assistance, you must live in one of the following areas:
Carlisle Area School District
South Middleton School District
Middlesex Township
2. If you are not living in the above areas, contact one of these agencies:
-
If you live in the Newville area, apply to Neighbors in Christ at First Presbyterian Church, 111 Big Spring Ave., Newville, PA (717-385-1053) on Saturday morning.
-
If you live in the Mechanicsburg or West Shore area, contact New Hope Ministries, 15 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA (717-766-7333) during the week. (www.nhm-pa.org)
-
If you live in the Shippensburg area, contact Christ Among Neighbors, 130 South Penn St., Shippensburg, PA (532-7577).
3. When you apply to Samaritan Fellowship you must have the following items with you:
-
A completed application. You may print and fill out a Samaritan Fellowship Application for Assistance and bring it along, or fill out an application after you arrive on Saturday morning.
-
A valid ID
-
Proof of income ( pay stubs, Unemployment, Social Security or other paperwork)
-
All bills related to the request you are making (utilities, insurance, rent, eviction notice or shut off notice, etc.)
-
The name, address, and phone number for the landlord, and, if possible a phone where the landlord may be reached on Saturday (if applying for rental assistance).
-
A referral from a case manager if you reside in public or other subsidized housing, Safe Harbour, Stuart House, Genesis House, or are a guest of CARES/or AfterCARES. Ask your case manager to complete a Samaritan Fellowship Referral letter and e-mail it to Samaritan Fellowship before you plan to appear. If you have applied at the County Homeless Assistance Program, or the Todd Baird Lindsey Foundation, you will need a referral.
If you do not have a case manager (if you are renting on your own, or own your home, etc,) you do not need a referral.
4. If you do not have the appropriate items, it will delay Samaritan Fellowship’s ability to assist you.
5. Come to new Carlisle United Methodist Church (CUMC) facility located at 333 Spring Garden Street (just past the Giant store on Spring Garden) between 7:45AM and 10:00AM Saturday morning. Clients should follow the signs along the entrance road which will direct them to the “Community Groups” section of the facility located to the right of the main entrance to the CUMC Worship Center. At this time we will require all clients to wear masks upon entry into the church and during the interview. We also ask that only the client seeking assistance comes to the interview.
6. It is helpful for the interview process and less stressful on you and the other applicants to make other arrangements for your children if possible. Activity bags are available for children who need to come with their parents.
7. You will be called for an interview in the order your request is submitted AND REVIEWED by your interviewers on Saturday morning. The interviewers will explain the process.
8. You must make time to be at Samaritan Fellowship until your case is decided and you are told the Board’s decision. Try to keep the Saturday morning free of other obligations. You may be at Samaritan Fellowship for several hours.
9. If you were told to return to Samaritan Fellowship for follow-up to a previous visit, and also told you did not need to complete another application, please inform the greeter that you are a return client so you can be seen in an expedited manner.
10. Effective July, 2018, Samaritan Fellowship no longer provides security deposits.
