• About Samaritan Fellowship

Since 1958,  Samaritan Fellowship, a Carlisle nonprofit ministry, has strived to carry out the Lord’s admonition to help our neighbor. Our purpose is to help those who have exhausted every available means for providing adequate shelter, utilities, medical care, fuel, vehicle repair, short-term shelter, food, clothing, and other emergency services. We serve families living in the Carlisle Area School District, South Middleton School District, and Middlesex Township.

Interview Schedule
Samaritan Fellowship conducts in-person interviews every Saturday, including holidays, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at our host site the Carlisle United Methodist Church (CUMC) Worship Center, located at 333 South Spring Garden Street (just past the Giant on Spring Garden Street).

Arrival & Interview Timing
Clients should arrive between 7:45 AM and 9:45 AM to allow enough time to complete the application before interviews begin.

  • Interviews start at approximately 8:45 AM and continue until all applicants present have been seen.
  • Applicants are interviewed in the order they arrive.
  • Due to time constraints, no applicants can be accepted after 10:00 AM.

Service Area & Documentation
Clients are encouraged to review the Carlisle service area and documentation requirements outlined in the How to Apply tab.
Complete documentation is necessary for the Board to properly evaluate each request. If documentation is incomplete, clients may be asked to return at a later date.

At the CUMC Facility
Please enter through the main entrance of the Worship Center (or as directed by Samaritan Fellowship signage).
To help maintain confidentiality and accommodate space limitations:

  • Only clients seeking assistance should attend the interview whenever possible.
  • On busy Saturdays, accompanying individuals may be asked to wait outside.

Application & Review Process
Clients will complete a Samaritan Fellowship application, which includes:

  • Residence and employment history
  • Current financial information
  • Specific request for assistance

A Steward will review the application with the client, clarify any details, and present the request to the Board for a decision.
Clients should plan to spend at least one hour for the full process.

Referrals
If a client’s needs are better served by another local organization, the Board may provide a referral. Examples include:

  • Community CARES (for individuals experiencing or near homelessness)
  • Todd Baird Lindsey Devlin Foundation (for individuals age 55+)
  • Other partner organizations as appropriate

Clients will be asked to contact the referred organization directly.

Thank you.

Note: CUMC is only our host site; Samaritan Fellowship is a separate organization.

CLIENT ASSISTANCE INFORMATION

Interview Schedule

Clients should go to the main entrance at the CUMC Worship Center.  We prefer that only the client seeking assistance comes to the interview. Our space to conduct the interviews is limited.  On especially busy Saturdays, we may ask any accompanying family or friends to wait outside the facility.  Masks may be required depending on health guidance in our community for the protection of our clients and volunteers.

Clients will be asked to complete a Samaritan Fellowship application which includes residence history, work history, current finances, and specific need request.   Stewards will review each request with the client to clarify any information and present the request to a Board who will make the decision on the request.  The Board requires complete documentation.    Clients should plan to spend at least an hour, while their request is reviewed and evaluated.   Clients may be asked to return if their documentation is incomplete.

If a client’s need is better addressed by another Carlisle organization such as Community CARES (near homeless or homeless) or Todd Baird Lindsey Devlin Foundation (55+), the Board will make a referral and ask the clients to contact those organizations directly

Thank you!

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

Due to the Coronavirus emergency, Samaritan Fellowship has discontinued in person meetings with clients.  A sign will be posted on the parking lot door of the church on Saturday mornings advising clients of how to arrange for a telephone interview with a Samaritan member to hear their needs.  We recognize that our clients are among the most vulnerable of our community as to the financial impact of this emergency and we are anxious to continue our service to them.

Furniture Ministry suspended

Samaritan Fellowship is immediately suspending all activity related to our furniture ministry. We are currently unable to accept donations of furniture or disperse furniture to those in need due to problems with our liability insurance carrier. Those in need are encouraged to contact New Digs (717-620-9735) at Mission Central in Mechanicsburg, PA. We will post any change in status on this web site when the situation is resolved.

Samaritan Fellowship moving

After 55 years of enjoying the hospitality and support of Allison United Methodist Church on Mooreland Avenue, Samaritan Fellowship will relocate its operation to the Grace United Methodist Church campus of the newly formed Carlisle United Methodist Church at 45 West South West St. effective Saturday morning, June 15th, 2013.  The last meeting with clients at Allison UMC will be Saturday, June 8th; the following Saturday, June 15th clients will be interviewed at the Grace campus.

Clients should enter at the doors of the church’s Pomfret Street parking lot, take the elevator to the lower level (LL), and follow the signs to the Samaritan Fellowship Intake Room.  Samaritan Fellowship is open for clients from7:30AM until 10:00AM.  No clients will be admitted to Samaritan Fellowship after 10:00AM.

Welcome!

This is our very first post!!  We are excited about moving into the 21st century and keeping you up to date on our ministry.  How grateful we are for all the financial and prayerful support we receive from the churches and community and for those who volunteer every Saturday morning to assist those with emergency needs.
